The Council currently holds a Comprehensive Consent for Taking and Discharging Groundwater for Site Dewatering purposes in Christchurch. A replacement application needs to be applied for in order to allow the continuous exercise of the consent. The Comprehensive Consent for Dewatering allows discharges of sediment and other contaminants from Council construction sites and is excercised on many projects, particularly trenching works in Christchurch City.

Reliable wastewater infrastructure protects public health and the environment. This project is part of the council's long-term programme to maintain and upgrade the below-ground network serving all Christchurch residents.
