WW Akaroa Reclaimed Water Treatment & Reuse Scheme

The purpose of this project is to provide alternative and improved treatment and disposal of wastewater at Akaroa, to meet cultural considerations and long term resource consent conditions.

This is a $93.1M water & waste project in Banks Peninsula, Christchurch, currently in progress.

The purpose of this project is to provide alternative and improved treatment and disposal of wastewater at Akaroa, to meet cultural considerations and long term resource consent conditions. The scope of works includes a new Akaroa Wastewater Treatment Plant on Old Coach Road, a new pump station at Childrens Bay boat park, and upgrades to the wastewater network of pipes and connections. The new wastewater treatment plant will replace the existing plant at Takapūneke Reserve and the outfall discharging treated water to Akaroa Harbour.

Reliable wastewater infrastructure protects public health and the environment. This $93.1M investment is part of the council's long-term programme to maintain and upgrade the below-ground network serving Banks Peninsula residents.
