Brooklands Suburb Guide

A new community at the coastal edge of Christchurch's northern growth area

Ward: Burwood-Pegasus

Brooklands is a relatively new residential suburb on the northern coastal edge of Christchurch, near the Waimakariri River mouth. The area was developed after significant land reclamation and coastal management work, and features modern housing developments alongside coastal reserve land. The suburb is close to the Waimakariri Regional Park and offers a semi-rural, coastal lifestyle.

Like other east Christchurch suburbs, parts of Brooklands were affected by the 2010-2011 earthquakes, with some red-zoned properties along the coastal fringe. The remaining community has a strong coastal identity, with residents valuing proximity to the beach, the estuary, and the natural environment.

Brooklands is further from the city centre than most Christchurch suburbs, so it suits buyers who prioritise space, coastal amenity, and a quiet lifestyle over urban convenience. Property prices are modest relative to the coastal setting.
