Bromley Suburb Guide
An industrial and residential suburb beside Christchurch's wastewater treatment plant
Ward: Linwood-Heathcote
Bromley is located on the eastern edge of Christchurch, between the Woolston industrial area and the Christchurch Wastewater Treatment Plant (Travis Road). The suburb has a mixed industrial and residential character -- one side borders light industrial zones, while residential streets are home to a working-class community. Its location near the wastewater plant has historically suppressed property values, but also kept the area affordable.
The suburb was affected by the 2011 earthquakes, with some liquefaction damage and infrastructure disruption. CCC has invested in three waters upgrades in the area, including major improvements to the wastewater treatment plant that have reduced odour and environmental impact for nearby residents.
Bromley has some of the most affordable residential land in Christchurch, and the eastern suburbs' ongoing regeneration is gradually improving the area's amenity. Access to Bromley Park, the Woolston Village shops, and the Travis Wetland provides some green amenity for residents.
